Great Hearts Day!
At
Archway Lincoln, we will not celebrate Valentine’s Day in the
classroom, but will instead celebrate Great Hearts Day on Friday,
February 10th. The
focus of the in-class celebrations is on friendship and
kind-heartedness, not gifts and candy. Students are not permitted to
bring store-bought or homemade valentines or treats to distribute to
their classmates. We celebrate Great Hearts Day a bit differently
than Valentine’s Day is traditionally celebrated in school. In fact,
there will not be any celebrations occurring on February 14th.
A Glimpse into our learning this week:
Literature: Little House in the Big Woods- Key concept: developing text supported evidence
Grammar: Prepositions and Objects of the Preposition (we are really making progress on this skill!)
Math:
Mental Math Strategies- test on Thursday (I will send a separate email
to my math students outlining more information). On the horizon- 4's
multiplication facts... Get ready to hear the 4's song!
History: The Constitution- How/Why the Constitution was written, the 3 branches of government, checks and balances
Science: The digestive system with a focus this week on the esophagus and stomach.
Writing: Letter Writing revisions, introduction to a 5 sentence paragraph
