The Erie Canal

Today we talked about the Erie Canal.  We discussed the lock system and how mules were used to pull the boats.  We explored how the Erie Canal connected Lake Erie to New York.  We discussed how the Erie Canal is one of the reasons why New York City became such a large city.  We also discussed how the Erie Canal contributed to Westward Expansion.  And then.... we sang.  :)  Enjoy the youtube video of the Erie Canal!

I wonder assignment tonight..... The question was asked, "How did Lake Erie get its name?"  So, that is the research question of the night!
